My Dad has a 755 tractor. Recently it began to run rough, then it stopped running. He took it in to the dealer. Much time passed and the dealer couldn't get it started. He sent the engine in and more time passed. Today the dealer left him a message saying he needs a new engine, his is junk. 5000.00 plus. Is this possible? Are these 20 hp engines not rebuildable? Is there a reman program out there? are there other less costly engines that will fit the 755 tractor? Please advise. Thankyou! Irontrader

The engine on the 755 is rebuildable, but you are limited to .020" oversize bore. The big enemy of these engines is dirt. Proper air filter maintenance is a must. The engine is not sleeved so if the block is worn more than .020" will correct, then a complete engine is usually the most economical repair. I don't know of any alternative engine that will bolt right in. It might pay to check around for prices on the engine. $5000.00 sounds a little steep. ....
